There is a new procedure that I am hoping will help me to get a kidney transplant sooner than later. The procedure is desensitization. I have a call into my transplant coordinator to find out more details on this procedure and if it would be an option for me. You can read about it here on the New York Times website.
UPDATE: As it turns out this is NOT a new procedure. I’m not sure why the article says it is. The procedure is actually called plasmapheresis. I am not a candidate for this procedure at this time because it is used in patients with 99-100% antibodies. My antibodies average around 90%, they fluctuate about 3-5%.
